My housemate and I got this projector for our gaming room and it is everything we had hoped it would be; slim, powerful, affordable, and LED-based. It costs about the same amount as a new bulb for most projectors but it’s lamp is expected to last for 30,000 hours. You do the math. I play Fallout 3 and God of War 3 on it every night and successfully forget when or where I am. This is the future.

The drivers employ a diaphragm with a phenolic impregnated linen-base and 2.0-inch voice coil, with a W shaped Alnico V magnet structure. My criteria for purchase was a screen no larger than 47 inches (to preserve the image quality of my AVI files and SD programming) and also something that had perfect geometry (unlike the Mitsubishi DLP that recently died on me) and something that would display and maintain a bright uniform picture. (unlike my Pioneer Plasma did) I also had hoped for a display that could display a native PAL video signal without requiring conversion.

As a neophyte in the video DSLR field, this was my first purchase moving away from the kit lens. It is a very sharp lens, great picture and awesome dof. Definitely an outstanding purchase for the price and quite frankly don’t know why you wouldn’t buy this lens if you had any kind of budget at all. It does feel like a toy, light, cheap plastic…wouldn’t want to drop it on the pavement…that is for sure. But if you did…it less than $100.00, so the heartache is minimized. I use it more than the kit lens as I think it produces a sharper picture. Again, if you are starting out, have a budget, can’t afford all the cool stuff, this would be your lens!
