Creative Labs Vado Camcorder

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

This camera is great. I had the first flip cam, then the 2nd gen, and now this Vado… I’m happiest with Creative Labs Vado Camcorder, as the buttons are easy to use, compared with the Flip. How those on the Flip ever got green-lighted is amazing, since you never knew if it was starting to record or not.

The dongle is great, since you don’t have to try to get your camera’s body right up against a possibly loaded up computer that already has many cables in the way.

The battery life must be outstanding, since I’ve never run it down. I record ’til I’m done and never pay it any mind. Since I usually watch my baby movies with family within the day or next few days, it’s being charged up by plugging it into the computer to watch them (the usb connection charges Creative Labs Vado Camcorder… no power cord. Excellent).

Canon XH-A1S 3CCD HDV High Definition Professional Camcorder

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

You can’t rest Canon XH-A1S Camcorder on your shoulder, but the image stabilizer helps and the grip and buttons are all well designed and easy to reach. I struggled through the manual, but fortunately bought Dan Curran’s dvd about the xh-a1 which appears to be almost identical. This was a -huge- help. I can’t recommend it enough if you are at all unsure of what you’re looking at. He goes through the simplest things (putting the shoulder strap on) to some very technical settings that you can do. The dvd saved me -so much- learning time and also prevented some careless mistakes (like letting sunlight through the viewfinder).

Skylink SC-100 Security System Deluxe Kit

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

I just bought this unit and I am very pleased with it. The unit does what it says and if you read the manual you will not have one problem at all. I agree with the rest of the reviewers, don’t use the tape, use the screws or do as I did, I used gorilla super glue to mount the sensors for my windows. I live in a apartment and I needed peace of mind when I am away. Trust me, this is a very good product and I plan on adding more to my system soon.

Pokemon SoulSilver Version

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Our 9 year old says, “Awesome Game! Starting in one region then going to another one is a good idea. I think it’s good for those people who don’t have Pokemon Silver for a Gameboy to see what it’s like. The hardest part is finding all the HMs. They are impossible to find (maybe it’s just me, passing everything up and ignoring it)! I still managed to get pretty far! Hopefully I’ll finish. The Pokewalker is a nice finishing touch. Whoever thought of carrying a Pokemon around with you is a genius!”

Vivitek D825MS 2600 Lumen SVGA DLP Projector

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

I bought Vivitek D825MS Projector not knowing what to expect. I was looking for a projector to hook up to my computer (Mac) with ease. I have to admit, it was pretty easy. All I had to do was buy an adapter that linked it into my macbook and voila..it worked perfectly. I use it every day for hours at a time. The adapter was reasonably priced (I think around $25) at the Apple store. I’ve had this projector for about 2 months and am very satisfied with it’s performance and reliability. :)

Epson P-7000 160GB Multimedia Storage Drive, Photo Viewer and Audio-Video Player w/ 4-Inch LCD

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

I bought this for a specific purpose. We were going to Hawaii, and I for once in my life didn’t have access to a laptop computer that I could use. My wife forced me to agree to not take a laptop so I couldn’t do work when I was on vacation. But, I take a lot of pictures, and needed a storage solution.

The Epson P3000 solved the problem. I also carried a USB2 160 GB 2.5 inch hard drive, and was able to make a second backup copy of all images on that, so I was never without 2 copies of every image.

I take D200/D300 RAW images, so they are large. And on longer trips (such as that trip to Kauai), I will take 5000 or 10000 images. In reality, the P3000 is too small for me, and on that first trip I took 48 GB of images, and the device could only hold 40GB of them. I had 4 8GB CF cards, so I was not at risk at that point, but for me, larger would have been better. But this was much cheaper than the P5000 available at the time, and I decided to save the bucks.

Cheapest Canon EF-S 10-22mm f 3.5-4.5 USM SLR Lens for EOS Digital SLRs

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

I usually keep the Tam 26-75mm on my cam, but since getting the 10-22, the Tam is gathering dust. At 22mm the lens gives a normal perspective, you just gotta get a lot closer to the subject than you would with a normal range zoom. As you go wide, you also find you have to get closer to what you are shooting than you are used to. Once you figure out how placing the horizon affects the pic, you can be at 10mm and really not get much distortion; or how to use the distortion effect to get that cool wide angle look. You don’t need a hood (not really sure how you would keep it out of the scene and have it blocking light anyway), you have to work to make it flare. I don’t see any CA in normal full screen viewing. Deep rich color, sharp. When I first popped it on my cam I thought it was defective because I could see “stuff” in the viewfinder; turned out the lens was resolving the dust on the mirror.
