Special FreeAgent Go Seagate for you
Monday, October 4th, 2010I have been a fan of Seagate portable drives ever since I used one for the first time several years ago. They’re fast, stylish, and built well. This one is no exception to those rules. Compared to my other Western Digital external hard drive, it is lightning fast at transferring files. I purchased the Seagate DockStar Seagate FreeAgent DockStar Network Adapter STDSA10G-RK (White) along with it, and they work well together. I can access the drive from my Windows PC’s and my Mac with no problem. The problem begins when you go to take it to another computer. I mainly use the device at home, but I also bring it to work whenever I need to have access to my data or need to transfer large files. All of the files show up, but I can’t open them. For instance, I brought 5 Photoshop PSD files and 3 Word (.docx) files to work one day, and not one would open! All of the Photoshop files said they were corrupted, and the Word files said the source was invalid. I have tried formatting the drive, avoiding the DockStar and just transferring files directly from my home computer to it, and nothing works. It will only open files on the computer that it originally saved from. Friends have tried to use my drive and have had the same problem. I would advise against the purchase of this product if you are looking at it as a file transfer solution, but if you’re using it for a backup or extra space for your computer, it would probably be a fine match. It doesn’t make the cut for me because for the price I expected it to be able to transfer files between computers with ease.
