Holden broke that mold and for the first time I met a literary character with whom I could empathize. He represented freedom to express and the guts to criticize.

Now, fifty years later – motivated by Sallinger’s death – I reread “Catcher in the Rye.” A very different experience, indeed! By today’s standards and my own personal evolution, Holden emerges as a complaining, negative and whining fellow. You want to take him by the shoulders and shake before dragging him to the nearest mirror for a hard look. Still, the book is a classic – a product of its time – and offers new perspectives in the revisit. It works on many levels and is a must read for youngsters of today who are bound to appreciate the differences, and for seniors who take pleasure in recalling the rather stilted days of their youth.

Got it out of the box, put it together and used it on the area rug! Carpet is now clean and I’m so happy. Amazing how disgusting the dirty water was! I had the hoover widepath before and the container where you put the cleaner broke off. $50 for a new one so I held it in place when I used it. A few months ago I turned the brushes off to use attachment and when I went to turn brushes on again, they wouldn’t turn. I couldn’t figure out the problem and husband wouldn’t look at it so I put it in the trash after using the attachment one more time to clean spots on the rug. Less than two weeks later and somehow the dog and kids had the carpet looking awful again. After researching I found this to be the best one, especially for the price. The widepath was more expensive and probably did just as good at cleaning. Since there aren’t separate containers for clean water and soap in this new one, I don’t have to worry about that part breaking and hopefully this one will last me a long time. Only used once so far but am very happy!

Works is good but not that great. About the same for Word Perfect. 2007 version is going to take some getting used to but once I figure it all out, I’m sure I will love it. Amazon did a great job with the order. Once ordered it only took about 3 days and it arrived in very good condition. Amazon does a good job. Will continue using them.

It’s clipped onto his car seat. It quickly calms him when he gets fussy in stores or when he’s getting buckled in. The volume is perfect too for walking around stores. There are 2 sides to the mobile. He can look at the stickers or the dangling animals. Either are very engaging.

I wear it every day …all day and and check the numbers freqently. It is a great “motivator”. I would recommend it to all who are interested in maintaining good health and fitness.

The Artemis Fowl series, however, is Colfer at his best. The story begins with Artemis, a 12 year old Irish millionaire with a genius for crime, ruthlessly pursuing his plot to steal fairy gold. Helping Artemis is his bodyguard, Butler, who is possibly my favorite fictional character of all time. Fighting, cooking, obtaining false papers–you name it, Butler is on top of it. Together, these two kidnap a fairy to hold for ransom. Unfortunately for them, the fairy they capture is Captain Holly Short, of the Lower Elements Police Reconnaissance squad (that’s LEPrecon for short). Holly has a few tricks of her own up her sleeve (or down her boot). Nor are Holly’s friends back at LEP headquarters to be overlooked. Foaly, the wisecracking centaur, commands technology that’s decades ahead of any competition, and Julius Root, the politically incorrect LEP commander, will stop time itself to get his officer back. So are they too much for Artemis? He doesn’t think so. With combatants like this, there’s no predicting what will happen. And the series only gets better from here!
