Dreadful. Judging from the first paragraph, this novel had the potential for being absorbing and a good holiday read. I was soon only making my way through it because I had nothing else to read and I kept thinking it must get better since it came highly recommended. If only I had had something better than this time waster: lazy plot that never seemed to go anywhere because it went in too many irrelevant directions, little firsthand knowledge of the circus, low-level vocabulary. A waste of time on a good topic.

Not only does it remove all that loose fur – my dog – Rosebud – loves it. If you scratch her head or back she will stand there forever – this is just as good as far as she is concerned.

The book is set in Ireland for the most part and is written by an Irish author. Artemis Fowl is a twelve year old genius, who lives on an estate outside of Dublin. He has decided to replace his family’s failing wealth by stealing a Fairy’s `Book’. Artemis learns the language and customs of fairies, and develops a complicated plan to capture a fairy, Holly, in order to trade her for all the gold in the LEPrecons hostage fund. Holly is an energetic Fairy with a bit to prove since her recent catastrophe. The book is fast paced and interesting. The difference between the two worlds is intriguing. The author alternates between the viewpoint of Artemis and Holly. At one point in the middle of the book, the author’s voice pops in and introduces another character, literally. The effect was a speed bump while reading. This is a world where the different species interact; dwarf, trolls, mud people (humans) and fairies are alive and interesting. The author alluded to at least two other stories related to the characters in this book. The problem with the book is I didn’t really identify with any of the characters. There were interesting passages about Artemis and Holly, the Butler character was intriguing, and Commander Root was unique, but none of them had me cheering for them to succeed. Holly was the friendliest character, but she was not the main character. It would be interesting to have a student debate the ethics of Artemis’ plan. What was the good Artemis accomplished? Or was there any at all? The end of the book specifically states that we should not interpret Artemis’ actions regarding his mother and anything other than selfishness. Students will identify with Artemis because he is so smart, smarter than everyone around him, what kid doesn’t feel that? He gets to order around all the adults in his world as well. This is a wonderful scale. Large numbers, easy to read, and attractive to keep in the bathroom. It is precise and easy to step on and get off of. Every member of our family is comfortable using this scale.

This printer is FAST. It spits out paper faster than my laser can and it is very very very good on ink as well. I have printed over 1000 pages on it so far and the color ink levels still show full and the black ink level shows about 3/4 remaining. The only 2 cons about this printer are: it is a little loud, mostly because it is spitting out a sheet every 2 seconds. It is not a good photo printer (not that HP claims it is, I was just hoping I could get away with only having one printer). My Epson is much better than this one for photos. At work we have an HP4700 laser printer that is in the hall which I used to exclusively print on because my Epson was just too slow. Now that I have this printer, I never use the Laser except to print something that is 100+ sheets. Overall I am totally happy with this printer; it does everything HP says it will do. I cannot say anything about the setup because for some reason on my work computer the CD would not run properly so I manually set it up with the drivers and I decided to hook it up via Ethernet after about a week and I did that all manually as well though the IP address, which was totally painless. I would recommend this printer to anyone who needs an office printer that is very good on ink usage. I am planning on buying this one’s big brother for my house the Office Jet Pro 8500 Wireless, which uses the same ink system, it just is also an All in One.
