Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board

Friday, June 18th, 2010

As with the original Wii Fit release, Wii Fit Plus is designed, as its name implies, to improve the user’s fitness. The game contains a large number of activities that fall into a variety of categories, including: yoga, aerobics, strength training and balance games. With all but a few exceptions, which utilize variations on a standard Wii Remote configuration, all activities utilize the Wii Balance Board (included with this bundle), either alone or configured with either a Wii Remote alone or the Wii Remote and nunchuck. The Balance Board, like any other Wii controller acts as a motion/pressure sensing device wirelessly synched to your Wii and replicating your body’s movements. Each controller employed occupies one of the Wii’s four wireless inputs, together mapping the reference points needed to recreate most full body motions on screen.

Club Penguin – Elite Penguin Force: Herbert’s Revenge

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

My son and daughter love to play Club Penguin online and couldn’t wait for this release. They were glued to it for hours today it came in. That said, my daughter, 9, said most of this time was spent playing old missions, and she says this was “horrible.” A player must complete four or more old missions with only one part new content in the beginning before getting to move on to something new (which is why she wanted Club Penguin – Elite Penguin Force – Herbert’s Revenge).

But my son, who hasn’t completed the online mission, thought it is “the best game in the world for a boy or girl.”

Also, my children say only one player can save his/her game, and that leaves a family with more children in a bind. The “guest” player must start fresh each time he plays, and this is a cause of great discord!

So, three stars from my daughter and five stars for my son equals four overall.

The Legend of Zelda-Spirit Tracks

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Link, the engineer – “Geez, the Zelda idea well is sure running dry, huh?” was my first thought upon seeing the trailers a few months before the release date. Turns out that I enjoy the train elements more than I expected. The designers give you plenty of stuff to do while traveling, and you encounter a growing cast of enemies as The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks for Nintendo DS progresses. And when there’s nothing else to do, it’s always fun to try your stylus-equipped hand at creating slow and dramatic cinematic camera sweeps of our favorite green-clad hero on his way to save Hyrule. Towards the end of The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks for Nintendo DS, the use of the train figures in more significantly, even including a sort of Pac-Man-on-steroids bit of gameplay. While being able to travel only where the titular Spirit Tracks lay on the overworld map makes traveling a bit more efficient, it does kind of take away from the free roaming exploration aspect of the series.

Wii Remote Controller

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

There are only two buttons that really matter. There’s an A button on the front that you push for most operations. There’s also a trigger underneath that is the B button. Depending on Wii Remote Controller, they will have you use one or the other button. There are also a few other buttons for more complex gaming. There’s a D-pad. A “home” button lets you go instantly back to the main Wii menu if you’re tired of playing. There’s a plus and minus button, a 1 and 2 button. There’s even a power button. You don’t have to walk over to your Wii any more to turn it on or off. Just hit the power button on the remote and you’re all set.

Wii Fit Plus

Friday, June 4th, 2010

The wii fit is a very fun game at first, but after a few months it can get kind of monotonous. When you advance from beginner to advance it only adds a few extra steps, nothing extravagent. Some of my favorites are the obsticle course and the kungfu rhythem boxing, but there is only one routine that you do over and over again. Would it really have been hard to mix it up with atleast 3 or more. It also be better if they had more than two levels so that after you pass the first one you don’t feel maxed out. I would have liked for Wii Fit Plusio exercises to demand more from you. The running is frustrating because I keep a constant pace but my mii is sprinting and then jogging and back to sprinting again.

Pokemon SoulSilver Version

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Our 9 year old says, “Awesome Game! Starting in one region then going to another one is a good idea. I think it’s good for those people who don’t have Pokemon Silver for a Gameboy to see what it’s like. The hardest part is finding all the HMs. They are impossible to find (maybe it’s just me, passing everything up and ignoring it)! I still managed to get pretty far! Hopefully I’ll finish. The Pokewalker is a nice finishing touch. Whoever thought of carrying a Pokemon around with you is a genius!”
