Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

I have had Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera for over a week now. My initial impressions are mostly positive thus far. Additional thoughts in the form of updates will be forthcoming once I get an opportunity to capture more images under various conditions (indoors/low light, outdoors, action, etc.) and get my act together to type it up. So far, I believe that the IQ, VF, LCD monitor, and handling are all vast improvements over the 20D. Taking photos at high ISOs and achieving low noise captures is all the rage these days. I feel that random photos I’ve taken at ISO settings up to 1600 are completely usuable. In the past, I felt comfortable shooting with my 20D mostly south of ISO 400/800. I shall pixel peep some more and shoot at even higher ISOs to see where the happy medium for me shooting with Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera lies. Tolerance for noise, I feel, is very subjective.

Pentax K-x 12.4 MP Digital SLR Camera with 2.7-inch LCD and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Lens

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

I had/have many digital cameras but for the short time I tried Pentax K-x 12.4 MP Digital SLR Camera, it is a keeper. The settings and menues are nice – the low light quality is great. Even the lens is great – especially for being a “kit” lens. The color (I have the white one) is great – very different and makes it look smaller and less scary than regular DSLR. It is light, small, fits well in hand, controls are at the right positions, it has live view and sensor image stabilization that works well. A great, great camera – especially for people new to DSLR.

Cheapest Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II AF-S NIKKOR Lens

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

I’ll keep this short, but I was on the fence about this lens due to a few reviews on what the zoom range “really is” when close up to the subject. I accept the reduction. I’m so happy with my purchase, I’d recommend this lens to anyone who wants pro glass, wide open shooting through the zoom, and a VR system second to none. Really, it is obvious when you get the box how solid and well built this lens is. I get tack sharp images all the way out. Bottom line: save your money and get this 70-200mm VRII lens (if you don’t have the last model) and I highly doubt you will be disappointed.

Nikon D300s 12.3 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

Comparing photos to the D90 I would say theres a definite improvement in the images, although it’s subtle. And there are more internal processing options as well. Yet another neat feature is that Nikon D300s 12.3 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera takes two memory cards. This really is as far as you can take a 12 megapixel camera. Even though Nikon rates this a semi-pro camera the quality of image will answer most photographer’s needs for some time to come. One day Nikon will improve the D700 and I’ll switch, but until then I’m happy with the D300s (as a matter of fact that’s now TWO D300s’s).

I have found the color and resolution to be superb. I easily get professional (saleable) 13 x19″ prints working through Lightroom 2.5 and Photoshop CS4 to a Canon Pro 9000 MkII printer. The D300s’ many focus, white balance and color modes are a great help in a rapidly changing shoot. I have programmed several custom settings for both studio and outdoor work. Its great to be able to shift multiple camera settings with one button push. The “Info” button alone should keep you from buying the D300 vs D300s.

Canon EOS Rebel T2i Review

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

IMAGE QUALITY: I feared that cramming so many megapixels onto this sensor, there would be a lot of image ‘noise’ (the megapixel myth). This thankfully hasn’t been an issue, and I’ve been very pleased with the pictures taken with this camera! Aside from White Balance issues (see below, Cons), image quality is pretty good!

VIDEO: Some people have disparagingly said that Video on DSLRs is just a gimmick. I disagree. Based on sample clips I’d seen on YouTube, I was excited about getting an HDSLR, and while videos are sometimes shaky if you don’t have very steady hands, a tripod eliminates those concerns. Audio quality on the T1i was criticized by many, but the T2i has a microphone input jack, which allows you to connect a mic. I don’t yet own one so can’t comment on that feature, but will update this review if and when I save enough to try this feature out. Additionally, this offers improved recording options, including higher fps (frames per second) than the T1i, which technically offered \”true HD\” recording of 1080, but only at a choppy 20 fps.
